London, 25 July 2011 – CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, has strengthened its Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia retail teams with several senior appointments.
As part of a broader strategy to assist global retail clients in expanding their footprint in the Asian market, Sebastian Skiff has been appointed to the role of Executive Director and will be based in Beijing. Skiff will oversee the retail business in the region, with particular focus on China and cross-border opportunities within Asia, EMEA, and the Americas regions. With more than 20 years of experience in the retail sector, Skiff has worked with retailers in the development of new market entry strategies and lease negotiations in Asia, as well as with major shopping centre developers and investors to provide detailed development consultancy and leasing services. He currently serves on the Asia Pacific Research Committee of the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC).
Skiff commented: “The retail sector in Asia offers our clients’ significant opportunities for market entry, expansion, and the development of quality retail real estate. I am tremendously excited to be taking up this key position and we will be looking to enhance our work with retail brands across borders and with our development and investment clients in shopping centre consulting, leasing, valuation, and asset management.”
CBRE continues to strengthen and expand its ‘Pan-Ireland’ retail team with the appointment of Shane Cahir and Niamh Riney to the positions of Associate Directors. Cahir joins CBRE from Colliers International where he specialised in shopping centres and tenant representation. Niamh Riney previously held the position of Retail Chartered Surveyor at Savills where she was primarily responsible for high-profile retail projects, including shopping centres and high street retail premises.
Michael Harrington, Executive Director and ‘Pan-Ireland’ Head of Retail, commented: “Growing our retail team reinforces and promotes our overall commitment to providing the complete commercial real estate advisory service for clients in every sector, as well as every market, in which we operate.”
In Sweden, Magnus Hammar has been appointed to the role of Head of Retail and Logistics Advisory and will be based in Stockholm. His experience primarily includes asset management and the development of retail and logistic properties in Sweden. Victoria Haggårds and Mikael Karlsson also join the Retail and Logistics team in Stockholm bringing with them extensive retail experience in asset management, analysis, development, and leasing.
In CBRE’s Gothenburg office, Bengt Axelsson has been appointed to the position of Head of Retail Tenant; prior to joining CBRE he worked for Colliers International and during the last 12 years has worked with all major chains and the most prominent landlords in the Swedish market. Tomas Pendén also joins the retail tenant team in Gothenburg from Colliers International and specialises in all aspects of retail leasing and landlord liaison. Together they are considered the market leaders in their niche and will cover all of Sweden.
Peter Gold, Head of EMEA Cross Border Retail, CB Richard Ellis, commented:
“CBRE now has more than 350 retail consultants across 37 countries in the EMEA region and globally this number is close to 1,000. Building a successful retail business means understanding the requirements of the local property market and aligning this strategy with wider commercial ambitions. This is why CBRE hires the very best professionals who understand local requirements implicitly, but who also operate with a global perspective. These appointments further enhance our cross-border network, so that whatever the region, country, or city we can provide expert advice to clients that focuses on ensuring property decisions support the business of retail.”
